Ingrown Toenail Surgery

A quick procedure under local anaesthetic, with your follow-up care included.

Ingrown toenails

Ingrown toenails are one of the most common conditions we treat at Earlsgate Podiatry. Often a patient will put up with a troublesome nail for years, trying to treat it and cut it back themselves. If you are tired of it, we can help.

We often carry out nail surgery for children, generally over the age of 8.

What is included

We offer an all-inclusive, competitively priced package for toenail removal. You may only need part of the nail removed or, after your consultation, you may decide to have the whole nail removed.

After your initial consultation, the surgery and two follow-up appointments are included in the package. We aim to carry out the surgery within one to two weeks of your consultation.

The consultation is a routine podiatry appointment, where we check whether surgery is suitable for you and talk through other treatment options. It is not included in the surgery price, and must take place at least 24 hours before your surgery, so you have time to be sure you want to go ahead.

The price goes up if more than one toe needs surgery.

The procedure

The procedure is quick, with no cuts to the delicate surrounding skin. A small amount of local anaesthetic is applied to your toe. Once the nail is removed, a chemical called phenol is applied to the nail bed to stop the problem part of the nail growing back.

We allow an hour for the whole procedure, so you can feel at ease and we can go through any paperwork with you.

On the day

  • Please bring someone with you.
  • Do not drive for up to two hours after the anaesthetic. Driving sooner may invalidate your car insurance.
  • Bring sandals or flip-flops. You will leave with a large bandage on your toe, and normal shoes will not fit over it.
