FAQ and Advice

  • What is the difference between podiatry & chiropody?

Both titles are protected by the Royal College of Podiatry. Essentially there is no difference. The name change to Podiatry occurred in 1993, as it is an internationally recognised name for a foot specialist.

All Podiatrists have recieved 3-4 years full-time university training. General footcarers cannot use 'Podiatry' or 'Chiropody' in their advertising which helps to inform and protect the public.

  • Qualifications & professional bodies

BSc (Pod) signifies that the Podiatrist has completed a full 3 year degree course in Podiatry. HCPC registration means the professional is registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and adheres to their requirements. Royal College of Podiatry is the professional body representing practicing Podiatrists. It offers Public liability Insurance, medical malpractice and Union support.

  • I have problems buying shoes that fit properly

We are able to offer advice on where and how to purchase shoes that are right for your feet. Often it is difficult to find shoes on the high street that fit you comfortably. We are familiar with the local specialist shoe shop providers and often recommend tried and trusted mail order companies for shoe provision. We are also able to suggest a more bespoke involvement from the hospital based orthotist if that is what your feet require.

  • Do you treat bunions?

We can offer advice and treatment for this painful condition. Footwear advice and simple insoles can help allievate pain. If more specialist intervention is required we can refer to NHS contacts for possible X-rays and surgical intervention.

  • My nails are crumbly and yellow, my skin is peeling

Fungal nail infections can be embarrassing and unsightly. We offer advice and treatment for this troublesome affliction. Fungal spores can spread from the nails to the skin, creating a condition known as 'Athletes Foot'. Treatment is effective and health education is given for preventative care.

  • I don't know how diabetes affects my feet.

When you are told that you may be diabetic, all manner of fears arise linked to the condition. As Podiatrists, we are experienced in assessing the feet and offering much needed reassurance and advice. Diabetes is a condition that can sometimes affect the feet, but the more information you have on the subject the better outcomes can be achieved for you general health. Diabetes can be managed and your Podiatrist will play their part along with your other health professionals.

  • Do you offer toe nail surgery for children?

Yes we do! The childs age and maturity will be taken into account. Generally children over the age of eight can happily recieve toenail surgery to relieve this painful condition. If a child is particularly nervous and fretful then an NHS referral may be a more suitable option. We do however offer a very relaxed atmosphere with music (and lollies!) - our Podiatrists have children themselves and understand how nervous children and adults can be. We do our best to put all concerned at ease.

  • I just need my toenails cutting, is this something you offer?

Yes. General toenail cutting and advice is always available everyday.

  • I think I have a toe / foot infection, should I ring your clinic?

Yes, most definately. Our receptionist will let us know the urgency of your condition and we will see you at the end of the clinic day.

  • How do I book for verruca treatment?

You will be booked initially for an assessment to establish if you have a verruca or a corn. If a verruca is diagnosed then a range of treatment options will be presented, including information on the 'Swift Treatment'.

Swift has an 80% success rate and is offered on a monthly basis. Resolution rates vary from one to five treatments.

  • I saw Natasha today for my regular check up and chat about my feet and left with a spring in my step - literally! She has helped me enormously, not only providing a high standard of care for my feet, but also listening to my concerns about arthritis in my toes. Natasha has offered practical advice on what type of footwear I should use and how compression socks could help with my condition. She also gave me a discount voucher for the shoe shop. The result is I now have comfortable and supportive footwear and socks which have reduced the discomfort in my feet by over 80%. Without Natasha's understanding approach, continuing care and sound advice I would still be in severe pain in my feet. DT - via Google
  • Phoned Natasha to make an appointment for my other half as he had been in pain for a year, she managed to book him in for the day after, when he went he said Natasha was very professional and polite, considering he isn't the type to speak about his problems, she knew exactly what to do and he has woken up the next day after the appointment in so much less pain, couldn't thank her another for her help, we will be returning for any other problems.
